Description of Operations/Administration

Church door imageLeadership:
The pastor is the spiritual and ministerial leader of Westhampton Baptist Church ["WBC"]. The overall leadership at WBC is somewhat more lay lead than staff lead. Depending on the subject matter, this leadership role easily reverses.

WBC is blessed with both a strong staff and lay members, male and female, who work closely together. There is within the church a feeling of collegiality, a lack of need for power/control, and a very high trust level on the part of both the ministerial staff and the congregation.

Constitution & Bylaws:
We have a constitution and associated bylaws. We can provide a copy upon request.

Board of Deacons:
Our Board of Deacons is open to all members of the entire congregation and is committed to supporting our pastor through:

  • General supervision of moral, spiritual, and temporal welfare of the Church
  • Visitation of the infirm, elderly, and distressed
  • Care for the discipline of the Church
  • Distribution of the elements of the Lord's Supper
  • Collection of the offerings of the Church
  • Administration of a Fellowship Fund
  • Support of the full program of the Church to the best of their ability

We currently provide for fifteen (15) deacons rotating on three-year cycles - however, any person who has been a deacon may augment the above functions whenever needed.

Committees:
The congregation supports the work of the church through twenty-five (25) various standing and ad-hoc committees.

A church council oversees the work of the committees.

Organizations:
In addition to committees, our church also has several organizations whose primary purposes are to enhance the spiritual growth and promote a sense of community among our members.

Quarterly Business Meetings:
The Pastor and the Board of the Deacons or Church Council may convene church members in called business meetings whenever they deem it expedient or whenever requested to do so by a quorum of the church, per the by-laws of the church. Our church meets quarterly, with the final meeting serving dual purposes of quarterly and annual meetings.

Trustees:
Our Board of Trustees consists of five members nominated and elected by the congregation to administer special financial and legal matters on behalf of the church.

Endowment Fund:
The church occasionally receives gifts and grants that are used to perpetuate the mission of the Church. The Fund is held, administered and disposed of by the Trustees.
